Tecate is in the Mexico state of Baja California along the Mexico-USA border. Tecate is less than an hour east from Tijuana, the fourth largest city in Mexico. Known for its namesake beer, Tecate is growing as manufacturing facilities continue to open in and around the city.

The population of Tijuana is expanding rapidly east toward Tecate. The open space between Tijuana and Tecate is shrinking, as El Florido, formerly a vacant valley between these two cities, is now a prominent industrial area.
